On a normal day, Amtrak’s Southwest Chief stops at the station in Lawrence. However, it is not the station seen in the featured image above.
The November 13, 2014 edition of the Chief was detoured over the Union Pacific line between Hutchinson and Kansas City due to a derailment. Although the UP line goes through Topeka and Lawrence, the station stops at these locations were canceled (along with the station stop at Newton). The Chief could have theoretically gotten back on its normal route at Topeka, but it would have required backing the train across the Kansas River into Topeka; Apparently, Amtrak did not want to deal with the hassle of doing so.
